Service Provider Training

A six-session training designed to equip Service Providers with tips, strategies, and peer connections that will serve as resources in working with Living Experts.

Never Too Late (NTL)’s Service Provider Training is informed by and delivered alongside Living Experts of the child welfare system with the support of professionals who have experience working in the sector.

After completing the training, Service Providers are invited to stay engaged with our developing Community of Practice.

The needs of young people who are “older” is the focus of our training.  For example, they may still be in the care of a child welfare agency but are soon to have their services terminated; they may be on a VYSA and living with friends; they may be receiving transitional services through a youth worker; or they may have case management services from a COTA worker.  Service providers do not need to be considering or working on permanency initiatives for the young people they are working with to participate.

Participants have reported an increased confidence in facilitating permanency work following the training.

“I crave hearing people’s stories because I can learn from those. For me I just think [Service Provider Training] was real, it was enriched, it was connected, it felt relevant. I wish every training could have that component.”

Upcoming Service Provider Offerings

Sessions Overview

  • Session 1: Connection

  • Session 2: Relationship

  • Session 3: “Challenging” Barriers

  • Session 4: Finding A "Good" Human

  • Session 5: Supporting the Journey

  • Session 6: Managing Expectations, Redefining Success

Details

  • It is open to anyone who is currently working with (or has previously worked with) at least one young person age 16 + in/from the child welfare system. Even if finding permanency relationships is not part of your role with a young person, we believe there are ways to work with a young person that will expand their thinking about themselves and their needs.

  • There is no cost to participate. However, it is expected that participants will be given the time by their organizations to attend all six sessions.  It is important that participating workers feel that their time and efforts invested in this training are also equally supported by their respective workplaces.

  • The training generally occurs over the course of 6 months, with one 2.5-hr session every 3 - 4 weeks.

  • We generally offer this training once a year. You can also bring Service Provider Training to your organization for Service Providers who may benefit.

  • You can check our Events Page for a listed start date or you can submit a Request for More Information to receive more information on the training and be notified about future offerings.
