Making Connections

One of the most frequently asked questions is “How does Never Too Late (NTL) connect Humans and Living Experts?”

Throughout its history, Never Too Late (NTL) has connected several potential Humans to Lived Experts in different ways and supported those who come to us with connections already made.

At the core of those methods has been one truth: the process is guided by the Living Expert.

In determining if working with Never Too Late (NTL) is right for you, we offer the following thoughts and considerations.

  • There is no linear path to permanency and there are no guarantees that Never Too Late (NTL) can make to any Humans or Lived Experts. It is a very vulnerable thing to pursue potential connections without guarantees, and we acknowledge this may be a challenging aspect of the journey.

  • We don’t do matching. Connection is what happens between human beings. Language of “matching” can sometimes imply that there is a “perfect match” usually based on a child/young person’s ability to “fit” into a family.

  • We do not keep files or profiles on Living Experts. Files can create misleading expectations.  When a family/individual uses information in files to make decisions about pursing a connection, unconditional commitment may be challenged when a family/individual discovers something about a young person that was “not in the file”. Information about the Lived Expert will be shared by them at whatever stage they are comfortable with.

  • Success at Never Too Late (NTL) is defined by relationships enduring. While disagreements are expected and boundaries are encouraged in any kind of relationship, Humans are expected to keep their commitment once it has been made, regardless of changes or challenges in their own lives (i.e. relocation, divorce/separation, loss of loved ones).

  • We focus on empowering Humans to take charge of self, not the Living Expert. Working with Never Too Late (NTL) provides many opportunities to reflect on life experiences, expectations and attitudes that Humans bring to the relationship.

  • There is no “one right way” as every family’s and individual’s needs are different. We aim to provide evidence-based, non-prescriptive relationship building education.
