Summer/Fall 2023 Newsletter

The transition from summer to fall can be a tricky one, we can learn a lot from the shifting of the seasons. Get some tips on that and info about upcoming orientations, trainings, and important topics at Never Too Late (NTL) in this newseltter.

Dear Friends!

Soon the days will begin to grow shorter and colder as the warmth of summer fades and we transition into fall. Seasonal shifts in nature serve as a great reminder of how seasons shift and change in our own lives. All of our journeys have moments where the sun has shone bright and moments where we thought the rain would never stop.

Before the last of summer escapes us, we can reflect on the moments of kindness and connection that will sustain us through more difficult weather. For the Never Too Late (NTL) team, the summer brought us together for our first planning retreat as an organization. We reflected on the past, dreamed about the future, agreed on things (and disagreed on things), and most importantly, connected as a team who believes in this community. We are so grateful to everyone who is part of this community and we look forward to continuing to grow with you!

If you have a little time before the end of the summer to reflect on your favourite summer memories, you could...

💭 Take a few moments out of your day to visualize them
🗳️ Create a summer memories box to open in the winter
✏️ Journal or write them down to read later
📸 Create a physical or digital picture album
💬 Share your special memory with the person you created it with

We would truly love to hear them if you feel so moved! Keep reading to find exciting news and get a preview of what is coming this fall!

Learn more about Children and Youth in Care Day and hear from voices of living experience in the Spring 2023 Newsletter

Dear Friends!

This year marks the 11th Children and Youth in Care Day (CYIC Day) in Ontario! For people with living experience in the child protection system, this day can come with many feelings. Some of us may be celebrating, some of us mourning, some of us will not even want to think about this day. For many it will bring a mixture of feelings.

Children and Youth in Care Day takes place annually on May 14th and was the result of years of advocacy and awareness raising by those with living experience and our allies. It was a recommendation of the My REAL Lifebook report published.

Never Too Late (NTL) strives to center living experience in everything we do, and that includes learning from the mistakes we make along the way (and we do make mistakes!). Children and Youth in Care Day is a great day to reflect on how you're centering living experience in your personal and professional lives.

We're also pleased to be launching a monthly Ask a Lived Expert panel event (online). While these events are usually exclusive to our community, in honour of Children and Youth in Care Day we're opening the debut event up to everyone! We hope you will join us.
